 teste mit dem Slogan „Frau\, Leben\, Freiheit“ in Teheran und anderen 
 Großstädten scheinen weit weg von dem Ort\, an dem Sara lebt. Doch die P
 rotagonistin dieses Films setzt sich in ihrer ländlichen Gemeinde im Nord
 westen des Iran ganz alltagspraktisch für die gleichen feministischen Wer
 te ein. Immer wieder werden wir in Bildern darauf zurückgeführt\, dass i
 hr Vater sie einst – zum Unmut des Dorfes – das Motorradfahren lehrte.
  Ein kleiner Gefallen mit großer Wirkung: Für Sara ebnete er einen Weg j
 enseits der patriarchalen Ehe. Mobil auf zwei Rädern arbeitete sie als He
 bamme und brachte zahlreiche Mädchen zur Welt\, für die sie sich jetzt e
 rneut stark machen will: Zu Beginn des Films und in der Mitte ihres Lebens
  entschließt sich Sara\, als erste Frau in der Geschichte ihrer Kommune f
 ür den Gemeinderat zu kandidieren. Ein Schritt\, der ihr einerseits begei
 sterte Unterstützung einbringt\; andererseits muss sie offene Feindseligk
 eiten und eine Anhörung bei den Sittenwächtern der Islamischen Republik 
 über sich ergehen lassen. Sara Khaki und Mohammadreza Eyni fangen in „C
 utting Through Rocks“ diese Machtstrukturen und ihre individuelle Wirkun
 g ebenso präzise ein wie Gesten der Solidarität und Selbstbestimmung. (J

  Freedom” in Tehran and other major cities seem a world away from where 
 Sara lives. Yet the protagonist of this film champions the very same femin
 ist values in her own practical\, everyday life within her rural community
  in north-western Iran. Time and again\, we are reminded through images th
 at her father once taught her to ride a motorbike – much to the village
 ’s displeasure. A small favour with a huge impact: for Sara\, it paved a
  path beyond patriarchal marriage. Mobile on two wheels\, she worked as a 
 midwife and delivered numerous girls\, for whom she now wishes to stand up
  once more: at the start of the film and in the middle of her life\, Sara 
 decides to stand as a candidate for the local council – the first woman 
 in her community’s history to do so. A move that\, on the one hand\, ear
 ns her enthusiastic support\; on the other\, she must endure open hostilit
 y and a hearing before the Islamic Republic’s guardians of morality. In 
 “Cutting Through Rocks”\, Sara Khaki and Mohammadreza Eyni capture the
 se power structures and their individual impact just as precisely as they
