SUMMARY:Report about Indigenous Resistance in the Amazon Region ( Brazil)
DESCRIPTION:Report about Indigenous Resistance in the Amazon Region ( Brazi
l)\nHello\,\nwe are very glad that we can invite you to a videoconference
with a comrade from Brazil.\nRafael is connected with the Amazon Libertari
an Culture Center (CCLA)\, the Brazilian Anarchist Coordination (CAB) and
is working as a professor and researcher in the field of Geography – to
understand from which point of view he will talk. The Comrade is based in
Santarém and has been researching and collaborating with Indigenous peopl
es in Pará - a state in the Brazilian Amazon.\nIn the presentation we wil
l talk about how that collaboration looks like but mainly about the strugg
le of Indigenous peoples in the Amazon in the face of the advance of capit
alism.\nThe region is the main corridor for Brazil’s grain and beef expo
rts\, and there are enormous threats from the expansion of soy agribusines
s\, cattle ranching and mining over the territories of Indigenous people.
In addition\, Lula’s Brazilian government currently wants to privatize s
everal rivers in the Amazon\, turning them into waterways for export and p
rivileging multinationals such as the American company Cargill.\nAs forms
of resistance\, Indigenous people have occupied Cargill ports\, blocked hi
ghways\, and carried out self-demarcations. meaning they do not wait for t
he state to demarcate their territories. They carry out the demarcation au
tonomously.\nWe will have pictures from the spot to give you also some vis
ual impressions. And there will be the oportunity to have questions as a co
nversation with the comrade as far as the tecnical limitations of an video
conference allows it.\nThe event will be in English and we try to provide
a whisper translation if there should be people who don’t feel comfortab
le to follow the conversation in this lenguage.\nThe event will take place
  at the 17.04.2026\, from 19:00pm and in „HaMo“ ( Merseburgerstraße 8
8b ).\nWe organize it as part of an series of several events around the In
ternational Day of Peasant Struggles which exist since 30 years already an
d has it’s roots in the murder of 21 landless workers by the Military Po
lice in Brazil back in 1996 cause they had occupied a piece of land.\nInit
