SUMMARY:Report about Indigenous Resistance in the Amazon Region ( Brazil)
DESCRIPTION:Hello\,\nwe are very glad that we can invite you to a videoconf
erence with a comrade from Brazil.\nRafael is connected with the Amazon Li
bertatrian Culture Center (CCLA)\, the Brazilian Anarchist Coordination (C
AB) and is working as a professor and researcher in the field of Geography
  – to understand from which point of view he will talk. The Comrade is b
ased in Santarém and has been researching and collaborating with Indigeno
us peoples in Pará - a state in the Brazilian Amazon.\nIn the presentatio
n we will talk about how that collaboration looks like but mainly about th
e struggle of Indigenous peoples in the Amazon in the face of the advance
of capitalism.\nThe region is the main corridor for Brazil’s grain and b
eef exports\, and there are enormous threats from the expansion of soy agr
ibusiness\, cattle ranching and mining over the territories of Indigenous
people. In addition\, Lula’s Brazilian government currently wants to pri
vatize several rivers in the Amazon\, turning them into waterways for expo
rt and privileging multinationals such as the American company Cargill.\nA
s forms of resistance\, Indigenous people have occupied Cargill ports\, bl
ocked highways\, and carried out self-demarcations. meaning they do not wa
it for the state to demarcate their territories. They carry out the demarc
ation autonomously.\nWe will have pictures from the spot to give you also
some visual impressions. And there will be the oportunity to have questions
as a conversation with the comrade as far as the tecnical limitations of
an videoconference allows it.\nThe event will be in English and we try to
provide a whisper translation if there should be people who don’t feel c
omfortable to follow the conversation in this lenguage.\nThe event will ta
ke place at the 17.04.2026\, from 19:00pm and in „HaMo“ ( Merseburgers
traße 88b ).\nWe organize it as part of an series of several events aroun
d the International Day of Peasant Struggles which exist since 30 years al
ready and has it’s roots in the murder of 21 landless workers by the Mil
itary Police in Brazil back in 1996 cause they had occupied a piece of lan
 d.\nInitiative Grüne Gewerke (IGG) Leipzig.\nhttps://gruene-gewerke.fau.o
