SUMMARY:Workshop on Hospicing and Outgrowing Modernity - Navigating Collaps
 e and Complicity with Compassion
DESCRIPTION:\n\n10.09  | 19h  |
Tante Emma\n\nA Workshop on Hospicing and Outgrowing Modernity\n\nMode
rnity is a way of organizing life that promises progress while depending o
n separation\, exploitation\, and infinite growth. Its dominant story clai
ms that with enough innovation and the right leaders\, we can fix what’s
wrong. The book ‘Hospicing Modernity’ by Vanessa Machado de Oliveira
offers a different perspective: the system’s harms – colonialism\, imp
erialism\, ecocide\, and deep inequality – are not accidents or malfunct
ions\, but the very conditions upholding the system.\n\nRather than rushin
g to repair or replace modernity with a “better” version\, this worksh
op invites us to slow down\, face discomfort\, and accompany modernity’s
ending with grief and care. We will recognize our deep entanglement in th
e violence and unsustainability we oppose – not to induce guilt or paral
ysis\, but to begin the harder work of composting modernity’s cultural\,
emotional\, and institutional remains.\n\nThis means tending to the mess
together\, while leaving space for new ways of being to emerge without ove
rwhelming them with our projections or need for control. Through collectiv
 e reading\, reflection\, and simple embodied practices\, we’ll notice ou
r escape mechanisms (denial\, blame-shifting\, moral superiority) and exp
lore how to stay present with what we would rather avoid.\n\nEvent Schedul
 e:\n– Grounding &amp\; Check-in\n– Introduction to the topic\n– Read
ing an English text passage + questions in silence\n– Sharing resonances
to the text – drawings or movements are welcome\n– Embodied Practice
/ Pause\n– Very short Check-in\, perhaps in pairs\n– Collective Holdin
 g\, seeing what wants to emerge\n– Closing &amp\; Check-out\n\nAs a nati
ve German speaker I’m happy for us to switch to German during the conver
sation if that feels easier for the whole group.\n\nIf you’d like to gra
sp Vanessa Machado de Oliveira’s way of thinking\, I warmly recommend th
 is interview with her: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lTEMgpW3H60\n\nFrom
this event\, a reading circle might emerge – if you feel called\, write
  to tatze@hacari.org.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nhttps://asessionsleipzig.noblogs.or
