BETWEEN REVOLUTIONS / Între revoluții (Reihe: FILM & PROTEST)

In den 1970er Jahren studieren die Iranerin Zahra und Maria aus Rumänien zusammen in Bukarest. Die beiden sind sich eng verbunden. Als im Iran regimekritische Proteste ausbrechen, kehrt Zahra dorthin zurück. In Briefen bleiben die beiden über Jahre hinweg in Kontakt. Darin schildern sie die Kämpfe von Frauen in ihren Ländern, die sich in sich parallel anbahnenden Revolutionen in unterschiedliche Richtungen bewegen.

In seltenen Archivaufnahmen verknüpft der Film die Geschichte zweier politisch und kulturell unterschiedlicher Länder und erweitert sie durch fikionalisierte Briefe von Frauen, die auf Dokumenten der rumänischen Geheimpolizei basieren. So entsteht eine intime Geschichte des Begehrens und Aufbegehrens gegen patriarchale Strukturen inmitten revolutionärer Umwälzungen.

Im Anschluss: Gespräch mit Elahe Haschemi Yekani, Professorin für Englische und Amerikanische Literatur und Kultur mit dem Schwerpunkt Postkoloniale Studien an der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.

ENG: An intimate and political documentary that weaves together the history of two countries rarely united, and the lives of two women resisting oppressive regimes and challenging patriarchal societies through the power of their desire.
By juxtaposing unusual archive images from two distant political and cultural contexts, the film brings us closer to exciting moments of courage and fear, hope and disappointment that accompany revolutions, and places Eastern Europe and the Middle East at the center of the great events that marked the 20th century. After the screening, there will be a talk with Elahe Haschemi Yekani, Professor of English and American Literature and Culture with a Focus on Postcolonial Studies at the Department of English and American Studies at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.
