On June 12 in Leipzig, we will meet Kseniya Lutskina — a Belarusian journalist who spent 4 years behind bars for covering protests and exposing state propaganda. Arrested simply for doing her job, she is now free and will share her story firsthand.
Repression against journalists and bloggers in Belarus has escalated to disastrous levels over the past year. According to the Belarusian Association of Journalists, at least 39 media representatives are currently imprisoned.
Belarus remains the most dangerous country in Europe for journalists. Authorities use censorship, violence, mass arrests, and even in absentia convictions to silence independent voices.
